Seas0nPass 0.9.7 released for Apple TV 2 software 6.2.1 (iOS 7.1.2): How to jailbreak – AppleTV 4 Jailbreak (appletv4jailbreak.com)

FireCore, the developer team behind jailbreak utility for Apple TV, has just made an announcement about the release of a beta version of Seas0nPass. The beta incorporating version 0.9.7 currently supports OS X El Capitan 10.11.

The tool can be used to jailbreak Apple TV (2nd generation or ATV2 ) running the latest software 6.2.1 which is iOS 7.1.2. Bad luck for those who were anticipating an untethered update, as FireCore’s current release is a tethered version. Here are the details about the release:

  • This beta is available for Mac only.
  • This version defaults to 5.3 (untethered) and you can install 6.2.1 (tethered) by right-clicking the Create IPSW button.
  • The 6.2.1 jailbreak is tethered (for now) so please ensure you know what that means before using this.

So if you own a 2nd generation Apple TV, you are ready to go with the tethered tool. To grab the download link for the jailbreak, you will have to visit the GitHub page, instead of the FireCore official blog. Advanced users can check out the following guide for step-by-step instruction to jailbreak ATV2.

Why Apple TV games must all use the Siri remote, but that might not last – AppleTV 4 Jailbreak (appletv4jailbreak.com)

The new Apple TV will play games, but don’t mistake it for a console.

Every game coming to the upcoming, reworked Apple TV will now need to support the odd little Siri remote as a controller, according to a recent shift in development policy.

While Apple TV games can also support third-party gamepads, they can’t require them.

Apple’s policy change appears in the current version of the an event last month.

A section in the Apple TV presentation devoted to gaming included a handful of demonstrations, like multiplayer Crossy Road and Beat Sports from Rock Band developer Harmonix. Both of those relatively simple games use the Apple-supplied remote control for interaction.

Apple designed its remote’s touchpad to function like an analog stick on modern controllers, allowing for fine-grained control. When gaming, some of its buttons become console-like A and X buttons.

The SteelSeries Nimbus

The Apple TV will support traditional game controllers, too — just as its sister platform, iOS, does for iPads and iPhones. The Apple TV’s product page even displays the SteelSeries Nimbus as the poster child for third-party controllers.

Multi-sticked and buttoned controllers are an optional add-on, however. When it goes on sale in late October, the Apple TV will ship only with Apple’s remote.

Apple also revealed at the even that, just like the Apple Watch, iPad and iPhone, the new Apple TV will support third-party apps, distributed through an App Store. As it does across all of its platforms, Apple will approve all software that appears in the Apple TV’s digital storefront. The app review process allows the company “to ensure they are reliable, perform as expected, and are free of offensive material,” according to Apple.

The idea is simple and several years old: Follow Apple’s rules, and your app will be approved. Break the rules, and Apple will reject your app.

A LIVING DOCUMENT

The new hardware opens up new possibilities for developers, who can create apps in a software ecosystem similar to iOS, the operating system for iPad and iPhone. App makers won’t be able to directly port their software to the new system, but the Apple TV’s hardware and software are based on Apple’s phones and tablets.

Shortly after the new Apple TV’s debut, Apple released the App Programming Guide for tvOS. Named for the new operating system that powers Apple TV, it’s designed to help developers create software for the hardware.

That week, a Tweet with a screenshot of a section called “You Can Require an Extended Game Controller” made its way around social media. It read as follows:

Unlike iOS apps, Apple TV apps can require the user to own a full game controller that supports the extended gamepad profile, but requiring a full game controller is highly discouraged. When you restrict an app, only gamers who already have a full game controller will see your game. However, it is still possible for your game to be launched when the full…

AirPlay-Enabled Apps For Apple TV: iPad/iPhone Apps AppGuide – AppleTV 4 Jailbreak (appletv4jailbreak.com)

If you are an iDevice owner, the Apple TV is a great little gadget to have. Not only does it let you access photos, music and video content in up to 1080p HD, it also expands what you can do with your iDevice. With AirPlay, you can stream content straight from your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch to your big screen television. There are a number of apps that are AirPlay-enabled, which means that they are optimized for use with the Apple TV. This AppList collects some of these apps, which aren’t simply AirPlayed for AirPlay’s sake; they demonstrate new dimensions of functionality, through their interaction with the Apple TV.

Remote

The first app deserving mention is the app that Apple created specifically for use with the Apple TV. The remote control that comes with the Apple TV is silver, sleek and a pain to use. It’s annoying to find and input text, one letter at a time. The Remote app allows you to use your iDevice keyboard to type out your titles and login information. You can also use it to control iTunes from anywhere in your home. If you just purchased an Apple TV, go and download it now.

Squrl Video Search – Find YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, iTunes and Live Streaming Videos

The Apple TV is a wonderful way to watch video, but it’s not always easy to locate content you want to watch. That’s where a video aggregator like Squrl comes in. You start by choosing personal video channels aligned with your interests. You can also link to your Facebook and Twitter accounts to view videos posted by your friends. The app then collects these videos in an easy to navigate layout. Best of all, AirPlay allows you to watch the video on your television, while you continue to browse other videos on your iDevice. Remember to change your privacy settings if you don’t want the world to know what you’re watching.

Science360 for iPad

Science360 is like a virtual science museum. Because of its interactive 360 view and large selection of video, the app fits well with the increased space of an actual television screen. Other than its images and photos, the app also collects breaking news from institutions funded by the National Science Foundation. I am a fan of apps that make education accessible. This app does that and makes it entertaining too.

iMovie

Instead of watching other people’s videos, you may want to make your own. Apple’s own iMovie is still the standard for that. You can create your own videos or movie trailers, set them to music and edit them to your heart’s content. Like most of Apple’s apps, iMovie…

Apple TV 3 jailbreak ? – AppleTV 4 Jailbreak (appletv4jailbreak.com)

Even if there is no jailbreak for ATV3 in the foreseeable future, is there any hope that Apple will start unlocking additional functions, features, and apps anytime soon?  I love the ATV3.  It looks beautiful on my new LED HDTV.  However, I REALLY wish there was more I could do with it other than watch Netflix and YouTube videos.  I want to watch all the digital copies of my entire DVD collection that I have on my Home Server in ISO format.  I don’t want to have to re-rip everything into a format that fits Apple’s standards.  The couple of flicks I tried to re-rip came out horrible in the Apple standard (either no audio or badly out of sync and dark pictures).  Also, I want to surf the web on my TV and add apps that I want, not the crap apps that Apple included (who cares about WSJ anyway?).  I’m totally surprised Apple hasn’t opened the ATV up to purchasing apps.  Do they really not care about adding an additional revenue stream to their arsenal?

Play games on your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV using Xbox and PS4 wireless controllers – AppleTV 4 Jailbreak (appletv4jailbreak.com)

Apple Arcade brings 100 games that you can play on your iPhone , iPad and Apple TV . But tapping and dragging on a glass display isn’t always the most satisfying way to play games like Shinsekai Into the Depths or Sneaky Sasquatch — using a wireless controller is a million times better. Luckily, iOS 13, iPadOS 13 and TVOS 13, add support Sony’s DualShock 4 and Xbox One S  wireless controllers, which means that you’ll be able to use them to play scores of games on your Apple device.

© Patrick Holland/CNET

Apple added support for both Xbox and PlayStation 4 wireless controllers to iOS 13, iPadOS 13 and tvOS 13.

Apple made the process to connect your controller to an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV simple and easy. PS4 and Xbox One controllers should work with most games. There’s no word whether Apple will bring support for the Nintendo Switch Pro wireless controller like it did for PS4 and Xbox One controllers.

One interesting detail is that you can connect multiple wireless controllers to a single device. I was able to connect and Xbox One S controller and a PS4 one with my iPhone at the same time. However, games that take advantage of local multiple player gameplay are sparse.

Check out our video at the top to follow step-by-step through the pairing and setup of an Xbox One or PS4 controller to your iPhone, iPad or AppleTV.

© Provided by CNET Apple added support for both Xbox and PlayStation 4 wireless controllers to iOS 13, iPadOS 13 and tvOS 13. Patrick Holland/CNET

Connect a PS4 controller to your iPhone, iPad, Apple TV

Let’s start with the PS4 controllers. The first thing you want to do is to make sure your controller is all charged up. Next on an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad go to Settings then Bluetooth. On an AppleTV go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth.

Load Error

Once there, hold the PlayStation button on and share button at the same time on your controller. You’ll see DualShock 4 Wireless Controller pop up in your Bluetooth list. Simply tap on it to connect. Once you’re connected, the PS4 controller will turn pink.

If you don’t see the controller appear, make sure that you’re out of range of your PS4.

Xbox One S and newer controllers work with your iPhone

Now let’s pair an Xbox One controller. Here’s where things get, to quote Gollum from Lord Of The Rings, “Tricksy.” Not all Xbox One controllers will work with your iPhone, iPad or AppleTV. Specifically, you need a model 1708 controller, aka the one that came with the Xbox One S. Newer…

Apple TV or Chromecast: Which Is Better for ‘Casting’ to Your TV? – AppleTV 4 Jailbreak (appletv4jailbreak.com)

What do you get for your money? That’s the question everyone looking to buy a piece of tech asks themselves. It also happens to be the question this recurring feature tries to answer. Is it worth spending extra on high-end gear, or do you get what you need with cheaper models? Every month, we’ll look at some of the cheapest and most expensive products in a given category, testing each to see what their limits are and help you figure out when you can cheap it out, and when to plunk down some extra cash to get what you need.

In this month’s high/low review, we compare two devices for casting your media from a mobile device to a HDTV, the $35 Google Chromecast and the $99 Apple TV.

We may be living in the era of near-omnipresent streaming media, but there is still something to be said for sitting down in front of the Tee Vee every now and then. It’s the biggest screen in your home, and the most comfortable place for watching. But if all of your media lives on a tablet or cell phone, how do you get your media easily onto the big screen? Simple: you plug one of these devices into your TV, and it wirelessly bridges the gap between the new world and the old.

Sure, both of these devices do more than just cast. They each have their own app ecosystems and their own content stores. And yes, there are many devices playing in this field—the Roku and Amazon Fire TV among them.

But many people just want to be able to cast, and we often get asked about those abilities specifically: which device is best for throwing a video, song, movie from a mobile screen to the big screen? Given the substantial cost difference, it seems people are curious if they can get away with a $35 Chromecast or if there’s some reason the Apple TV is worth their $99.

Let’s explore the two and see how they differ.

Google Chromecast

Google goes for a minimalist approach with the Chromecast, a small thumb drive-sized device that plugs into two ports on your television: the HDMI port, and a USB port, where it draws the electricity needed to power the device. If your HDTV doesn’t have a USB port, or if the port on your TV doesn’t supply enough juice to power the Chromecast, Google also throws in a USB power adapter. The internals of this dongle are simple: it is really little more than a Wi-Fi interface and a few chips that output a video image. Most of the heavy lifting is done by your mobile device: a phone, tablet, or PC using software from Google or one of its partners that supports Chromecast.

Google Chromecast.

Alex Washburn/WIRED

This is an important bit: If you’re going to cast from an app on your phone, the app has to be written especially to work with Chromecast. You can’t stream music or video from an…
