Despite AT&T stating June 8 was the last day to snap up a free 32GB Apple TV 4K with three months of prepaid DirecTV Now service, the wireless giant has gone ahead and extended the deal. With plans as low as $35 per month, you can get the Apple TV 4K and three months of streaming content for just $105.

After multiple extensions of the best deal we’ve seen on the Apple TV 4K, AT&T has done it again by extending the promo offering new subscribers a free 32GB Apple TV 4K with three months of prepaid DirecTV Now service. According to AT&T, the minimum requirement was going to be upped to four months of prepaid service starting June 9. However, that has not come to fruition, giving shoppers a little extra time to snap up the deal. With plans starting at $35 per month, you can be out the door for as little as $105 plus tax today for both the Apple TV 4K and three months of programming.

Considering the 32 gigabyte Apple TV 4K retails for $179 alone, this deal is $75 cheaper than paying retail, without even factoring in the included programming. Back in November, DirecTV required four months of service to secure the free 32GB Apple TV 4K, making this offer $35 cheaper than the holiday deal (and the new minimum requirement starting tomorrow).

The streaming platform provides users with a variety of popular cable channels, including properties owned by AMC, Discovery, Disney, NBCUniversal and Viacom, among others. In November 2017, AT&T struck a deal with CBS to carry streaming and on-demand content from CBS News, CBS Sports Network, The CW, Pop and Showtime. AT&T also recently added a beta Cloud DVR feature to the plans, allowing users to record up to 20 hours of programming at no additional cost.

Along with the Apple TV, DirecTV Now supports a wide variety of internet-connected devices including Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, iPhone, iPad, Android hardware, Chromecast, and Google Cast-enabled LeEco ecotvs and VIZIO SmartCast Displays. Subscribers can also access programming through web browsers.

AT&T’s offer is available to new subscribers for a limited time. AT&T Unlimited Plus wireless subscribers may also be eligible for a $20 credit on DirecTV Now service after the first three months.

Apple could soon bundle services like Apple Music and Apple TV+ while offering a discount to customers. It worked for Disney and Amazon, so why not?

Anonymous sources point towards Apple preparing a series of subscription bundles to get more people signed up for its services. The Amazon Prime-like approach could prove beneficial as Apple’s brand recognition stretches across so many industries that it can be hard for consumers to keep up. These potential bundles could also entice more customers due to lowered costs.

Apple does so many things that it’s easy to forget how wide its influence truly is. At their core, you could call them a PC manufacturer except that’s hardly what they’re most known for these days. People associate the company with the iPhone or iPad more readily and even within the computing space, Macbook laptops have a more profound cultural presence than Mac desktops. The company also has legendary accessories that are now household names like AirPods. But, even beyond hardware, Apple has popular software like Final Cut Pro or iCloud, and its numerous brand acquisitions like Beats headphones.

Somewhere in there, Apple also has multiple subscription services. According to informed Apple insiders with whom Bloomberg spoke, the company is planning multi-tiered bundles for its entertainment services that will be automatically suggested to iPhone and iPad users after the release of iOS 14 this year. The bundles will be modular in that some will include Apple Music and Apple TV+, while others could also add the Apple Arcade gaming service. Apple News+, and expanded iCloud storage.

The Bloomberg report states that an individual subscription to each Apple service suggested in these potential bundles would cost about $45 per month. The proposed packages would save most subscribers between $2 and $5 monthly, which means they could be a great deal for consumers. From a public perception standpoint, it also makes subscribing to multiple services easier to stomach. A similar idea seems to have been successful for Disney+ as that service launched with bundles that included Hulu and ESPN+. Amazon is another great example of a company growing a subscription base by combining services, having grown Amazon Prime into one of its biggest revenue sources through bundles.

Scenarios like those reveal why, on the business side, this is a no-brainer for Apple. Investors typically appreciate seeing major corporations add the recurring revenue streams that monthly subscriptions bring. There’s also the obvious benefit of being able to pull more Apple customers into the ecosystem. That can then be translated into greater hardware sales too, since the company would be compelled to offer free trials of these bundles with every new iPhone or iPad, for example.

There aren’t any design details for the game controller provided, but Jioriku is under the impression that Apple is apparently working on the accessory for the Apple TV. If you didn’t know the following, there is already dedicated game controller support for the iPad for both the PS4 and Xbox One controllers, and third-party accessory manufacturers like Gamevice have developed a controller for a variety of iPhone models too.

With the 2020 Apple TV featuring a powerful chipset like the A12X Bionic, a user simply cannot rely on the regular remote to do some casual gaming, which could be one reason why Jioriku tweeted that a game controller is being prepped. Sadly, while the tipster earlier stated that the TV box will ship with a heatsink to properly cool the A12X Bionic in an earlier tweet, he doesn’t have a concrete release date for this unnamed game controller.

He does state there’s a possibility the announcement might happen at WWDC 2020, which will start on June 22, but you shouldn’t hold your breath. Then again, there could be some hardware announcements happening on a software-focused keynote such as the 2020 iMac redesign and Apple’s transition from Intel chips to its in-house A-series silicon, so anything is possible a few days from now.

The battle between Epic Games and Apple over Fortnite and App Store payment policies has at least one upside: this 45-second animated takedown of Ridley Scott’s 1984 Super Bowl commercial casting a worm-infested apple as Big Brother.

Epic Games filed suit after Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store for allowing fans to circumvent the App Store payment system and therefore the 30% commission Apple retains.

The Epic suit claims “Apple has become what it once railed against: the behemoth seeking to control markets, block competition and stifle innovation.”

After removing the app, Apple stated: “Today, Epic Games took the unfortunate step of violating the App Store guidelines that are applied equally to every developer and designed to keep the store safe for our users. As a result, their Fortnite app has been removed from the store.”

Along with being able to play classic Nintendo and Sega games on your Apple TV, you can also play classic arcade titles. Doing so is made possible by a port of MAME, which stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. Unfortunately there isn’t yet a GitHub page setup for the MAME tvOS port, but the same developer that created the MAME emulator that we showed you a while back has made the full Xcode project available for download.

Before you begin, get familiar with our official sideloading tutorial. This teaches you the mechanics and ins and outs of sideloading, which is what we’ll be doing to get MAME installed on our Apple TV. Also, you will need a Bluetooth controller to control the MAME interface and games.

Step 1: Connect your Apple TV to your Mac using a USB Type-C Cable

Step 2: Download the MAME Xcode project

Step 3: Drag and drop your MAME ROMS into the Resources folder under the project

Step 4: Click the Play button in Xcode to deploy the app to your Apple TV and click Finish (if needed).

And that really is all there is to it. Once you have MAME running on your Apple TV, it’s just a matter of pressing the A button on your controller repeatedly to get to the ROM selection screen. Happy old-school gaming!

Update: a new GitHub page has been created for the MAME tvOS emulator. The GitHub download includes a new version with fixes and preliminary Apple TV remote support.

A couple of weeks back we had confirmed that an Apple TV 2G 5.2 untethered jailbreak will be possible. The exploits that have been used for evasi0n untethered jailbreak for other iOS devices also work with Apple’s set top box. The Seas0nPass jailbreak tool has finally be updated and it allows us to jailbreak Apple TV 2G 5.2 firmware. This guide will teach you exactly how to do that.

The Apple TV 5.2 firmware update was released when iOS 6.1 was rolled out to the public. This update features Bluetooth keyboard support as well as Up Next for seeing what’s coming up next in the queue. The exploits that work with evasi0n untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch are also compatible with Apple TV 2G. Hence the Apple TV 2G 5.2 untethered jailbreak can be done using the latest version of Seas0nPass.

There is a little caveat though. Only the second generation Apple TV can be jailbroken right now. The Apple TV 3G is not compatible with this jailbreak and there’s no point in wasting your time with trying to jailbreak it. When one is available for it, we’ll let you know and post a guide about it as well. Right now, follow the guide posted below for Apple TV 2G 5.2 untethered jailbreak.

Step 1: Download Seas0nPass for Windows or Mac.

Step 2: Once downloaded, run Seas0nPass. Click on Create IPSW, it will automatically download Apple TV 2G 5.2 firmware and then create a custom firmware file which will be used for jailbreaking.

Step 3: Plug in your Apple TV 2G to the computer. The LED light up front will start flashing. Now press and hold the Menu and Play/Pause buttons on your Apple TV remote for about 7 seconds. This will put the Apple TV 2G in DFU mode.

Step 4: Now sit back and relax. Seas0nPass will run through a series of automated processes. iTunes will be launched too. Just don’t interrupt the process. Once the process is done, you can close Seas0nPass.

Step 5: Now disconnect your Apple TV 2G from the computer. Connect the power cord and see that the LED comes to life. Hook it up to your television via HDMI. Once you’ve gone through the initial setup procedure, you’ll notice that the Settings icon has been replaced with a red FC icon. This is proof that your Apple TV 2G 5.2 untethered jailbreak has been successful.
