If you are currently an Apple TV+ and CBS All Access (CBSAA) subscriber, you can get SHOWTIME free. Your subscription status will automatically reflect the new bundle. However, there’s a slight trick involved.

First, let’s look at the offer by Apple. Plus, here’s the TMO article: “Apple Confirms Apple TV+, CBS All Access, SHOWTIME Bundle.” One must already be an Apple TV+ subscriber.

The bundle allows customers to access the CBS All Access Commercial Free plan and SHOWTIME, alongside Apple’s original shows.

Unfortunately, typical press releases are long on offer glitz and short on tactical details. For example what if one is already a CBSAA subscriber? (I am.) Curious, I downloaded the SHOWTIME app to my Apple TV 4K. Naturally it knew nothing of the special bundle offer. On launch, it made its conventional pitch.

On a hunch, I launched the Apple TV app, scrolled to Channels and selected SHOWTIME.

All I had to do was sign up for the free trial—with terms I emphasized inside a red box. In an instant, I was watching Billions on  SHOWTIME. No formal sign-up required and no need to cancel existing CBSAA first and resubscribe,

What was even sweeter is that my CBSAA subscription was automagically updated by Apple to include SHOWTIME. Below is a screenshot from my iPhone. You do have to tap on the OPTIONS and confirm with Apple ID, but that’s it.

I was impressed by the elegance, transparency and simplicity of this offer.

Utiliser Freebox AirMedia

Vous avez la possibilité de lancer des contenus audiovisuels (photos, vidéos, musiques) depuis votre périphérique mobile iPhone, iPad, iPod ou Mac compatible sur votre Freebox Server ou Freebox Player (donc votre téléviseur), au choix, le tout sans fil.

Prenons l’exemple d’un iPhone/iPod.

• Vous devez êtes connecté à votre réseau WiFi Freebox depuis votre iPhone/iPod (ici dans Réglages > Wi-Fi) :

• Lancez au choix une application Musique, Vidéo, Photos ou n’importe quelle application capables de lire un média, puis assurez-vous que votre TV ainsi que le Freebox Player sont allumés.
• Sélectionnez le média de votre choix afin de le lancer (dans notre exemple, nous souhaitons lire une chanson depuis l’application Musique). Faites ensuite apparaître le Centre de contrôle en glissant votre doigt du bas de l’écran vers le haut.
  Appuyez sur l’icône 

 

• Choisissez le boîtier Freebox sur lequel vous souhaitez lire votre fichier.
  Ici, nous voulons lire le morceau sur le téléviseur, nous sélectionnons donc Freebox Player :

  

Votre téléviseur (ou matériel HiFi si relié au Freebox Player) diffuse automatiquement le fichier que vous avez choisi.
Une notification est affichée sur votre écran TV, vous indiquant le morceau en cours de lecture. Le son se joue alors en remplacement du son initial (dans le cas où vous étiez en train de visionner une chaîne télévisée, par exemple) :

  

S’il s’agit d’une photo ou d’une vidéo, elle s’affiche en plein écran.
Vous pouvez librement naviguer depuis votre périphérique, votre téléviseur suivra automatiquement (vidéos y compris).

Vous pouvez choisir la fonction Recopie vidéo afin de visionner sur votre téléviseur l’écran tel que vous le voyez sur votre périphérique compatible AirMedia.

Si vous choisissez la sortie Freebox Server, le morceau (musique uniquement) sélectionné sera joué sur l’enceinte intégrée au boîtier Server. Si vous y avez relié un périphérique audio (via la prise femelle jack verte située au dos), alors c’est lui qui prendra le relais et émettra le son. 

    L’écran en façade du Server vous indique les informations sur le morceau joué.

Dans le cadre d’un MultiTV, vous avez la possibilité de choisir sur quel Player vous souhaitez jouer votre morceau.

Afin de différencier vos boîtiers Player (si vous disposez de l’option MultiTV), vous avez la possibilité de modifier l’appellation de chacun d’entre eux (par exemple “Salon” et “Chambre”) depuis le menu Freebox TV > Réglages > Système > Réglages réseau > Nom réseau du Player :

          

Vous pouvez choisir de désactiver AirMedia sur votre Player ou d’ajouter un mot de passe pour son utilisation (depuis le menu principal Freebox TV > Réglages > Application > AirMedia Video > Activer AirMedia et Mot de passe). Ce dernier vous sera alors demandé lorsque vous lancerez la lecture d’un morceau depuis votre périphérique portable.

            

Si l’option vous permettant d’utiliser AirMedia (petite flèche) ne semble pas disponible sur votre périphérique Apple alors que vous êtes bien connecté à votre WiFi…

I’ve seen some previous posts from users who had the beta had reported that tvOS 14 corrected the Dolby vision errors a few users were having. Now that tvOS 14 is out for everyone this was the first thing I checked after the update. The Dolby Vision errors have indeed been fixed in this update. Good news for everyone that have had this issue and needed a workaround.

The biggest disappointment for anyone with an Apple TV in the UK had been the sheer disregard that the UK channels had paid to it, with the exception of the BBC, which made iPlayer available as an app for the 4th generation Apple TV in December 2015. Back then no other UK channel had built an app for the Apple TV, but luckily that’s no longer the case.

Most of the TV channels in the UK have an On Demand app that you can download from the Apple TV app store. Most recently, All4’s On Demand app has arrived. We look at the best entertainment apps on the Apple TV here.

In addition to the various TV-related apps you can get on the Apple TV, in January 2018 Apple launched the TV app for the Apple TV (and the iPhone and iPad – read about that here How to use the TV app on iPhone and iPad in the UK). (The app launched in the US a little earlier).

Now you can use the TV app to search Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVHub, My5 and more. The TV app makes it easier to find where a particular show or film is being shown, and means you can choose to watch a version that is free, either because it’s in one of the services you subscribe to, or because it’s been aired on UK TV recently and is in the relevant on demand app.

Apple has announced that it will be updating the TV app in May 2019 to include Channels – which will be on demand streaming services you can register for and watch within the TV app. We’ll look at what these Channels might be in the UK below.

Which Channels do I get on Apple TV?

Not all the UK on-demand channels are available to search via the TV app on the Apple TV, and neither are all the UK content services. However, many services and on-demand channels are available as a stand-alone app on the Apple TV.

Now TV is a prime example of this – the app is available for Apple TV but you won’t see it in the TV app.

Also missing from both the Apple TV and the TV app is UKTV Play.

When the new Channels feature launches in Apple’s TV app later in 2019 we will see if any of these TV channels become Channels in the TV app – with users being able to sign up and subscribe via their Apple account, and watch the content wihtout leaving the TV app.

While rumors continue to circulate about Apple building an HDTV, for now we have the $99 Apple TV set top box. You can get more features and customization on your iDevice by Jailbreaking it, and the same holds true for the Apple TV. Here’s how to do it with Seas0npass.

To jailbreak your Apple TV you’ll need the following.

• PC or Mac
• Apple TV (2nd Generation)
• Micro USB cable
• Seas0nPass for Mac or PC by fireCore
• Latest version of iTunes

Note: In this example I’m jailbreaking my Apple TV (2nd Generation) with 5.0.2 firmware on a Windows 7 system. But the process is the same if you’re using a Mac. If your Apple TV is running a different firmware version, just download the appropriate Seas0nPass software, or update your Apple TV to the latest version.

To find which software your Apple TV is running, Go to Settings >> General >> About.

Connect your Apple TV to your Mac or PC with the micro USB cable. Then launch the Seas0npass software.

Click Create IPSW.

Then wait while the new Firmware is downloaded to your system. The amount of time it takes will vary depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

Next it will start to install the software.

After it’s done, you’ll see the following screen. On your Apple TV remote, hold down both the Menu and Play/Pause buttons for seven seconds. This puts your Apple TV in DFU mode.

After the Custom IPSW is created successfully, iTunes will open and your Apple TV will be restored to the new firmware.

The process takes five to ten minutes. When it’s done you’ll get the following message. Click OK and unplug your Apple TV from your computer.

Connect your Apple TV back to your HDTV and you’ll need to go through the initial set up process again.

When it boots up, you’ll see the Firecore logo for the Settings icon. This reaffirms the jailbreak was successful.

After jailbreaking your Apple TV  you can add extra apps and customization to it that aren’t available like NitoTV, XBMC, PLEX and more. I’ll be covering the groovy features you can add in future articles.

The world is being asked to stay home right now, and for many of us, money might be tighter than usual. That creates quite a conundrum: How can we stay entertained on the cheap?

The good news is that you don’t have to do it cheaply — you can do it for free. Many streaming services are offering quality content free of charge these days, as long as you’re fine with watching an ad or two. As with paid content, some services are objectively better than others, and we’ve collected the best of the best.

Pluto TV

Supported devices: Apple TV, Roku devices, Amazon Fire TV and TV Stick, Google Chromecast, Android TV, iOS devices, Android devices.

Who it’s for: Those interested in Comedy Central content, children’s programming, food channels, nature, and travel content.

Pluto TV is a free TV streaming service that offers a couple of popular networks in addition to more specialized live and on-demand content. In all, the ad-supported platform has more than 250 channels filled with movies and TV shows. Or, in other words, it’s a hodgepodge of content you’re familiar with and content you’ve never heard of before. Since it’s free, it’s worth diving into.

Speaking of Pluto TV, if you own a Vizio SmartCast TV, you’ve already got Pluto TV, but it goes by the name WatchFree. That’s what Vizio calls its free streaming TV service, which is powered by Pluto TV. Vizio has also supplemented the 150-plus Pluto TV channels with an additional 30 free streaming channels that can be found in a new Free Channels row on the SmartCast home screen.

Crackle

Supported devices: Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Android devices, Apple TV, iOS devices, Chromecast, LG TV, Playstation 4, Roku, Samsung TV, Vizio TV, Xbox One.

Who it’s for: Those who aren’t afraid to dig through a few old and forgotten productions to find some gems.

Crackle operates in a similar fashion to Pluto TV, and to most free streaming services. You’ll get ads, but you’ll also get access to thousands of hours of free content. By browsing their library, it’s not hard to find some fun things to watch (the Ace Ventura movies are available to stream). But it’s almost more fun to find all the B-level movies featuring today’s A-list actors. Remember 1997’s The Devil’s Own? Neither do we, but it starred Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt.

Tubi TV

Supported devices: Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and TV Stick, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Chromecast, TiVo, Android TV, Xfinity X1, Cox Contour.

Who it’s for: Anyone hoping to stream episodes of Hell’s Kitchen or movies like Minority Report and Be Cool.

There isn’t any exclusive content on Tubi TV. But, since it’s free, that’s basically expected. What there is on Tubi TV is a wealth of older TV shows and movies. It’s not necessarily enough to make your primary streaming service, but it’s worth keeping it in the lineup whenever you’re…
